Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is a gentle, non-intrusive, non-manipulative method of stress relief and pain control that can facilitate healing not only on the physical level but also on psychological and sub-conscious levels. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “Universal” or “spiritually guided” and Ki which means “life force energy”. For those who practice Reiki, it is a way of helping others facilitate healing with a method that does not deplete them. Unlike other healing modalities, Reiki is drawn from outside the practitioner and does not utilize her or his personal energy. Reiki is gentle, yet effective and cannot ever be harmful to the practitioner or the client.
Benefits of Reiki can include feeling re-centered, experiencing a heightened sense of awareness, enhanced well-being, emotional resolution, stress reduction, reduction in pain and tension, inner peace and a deep sense of quietude. A Reiki session typically lasts 45-75 minutes. The client rests comfortably on a massage table while the practitioner applies light contact on various areas of the body, thus channeling healing energy to where it is needed. Reiki works on all levels; Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual.
